A Nairobi resident is counting his losses after a night out turned into a nightmare when he was allegedly drugged and robbed of Ksh. 290,000 and a high-end mobile phone by two men he had met at a club along the bustling River Road.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The victim, identified as Simon Katumo, had gone out for drinks when he struck up a conversation with two seemingly friendly individuals — later identified as James Githinji and Brian Kamau.
According to police reports, Katumo joined the pair for a round of drinks, unaware that they had sinister intentions. Moments after consuming the drinks ordered by the duo, he reportedly lost consciousness.
Katumo later woke up in his apartment, disoriented and with no recollection of how he got home. It was then that he realized his phone was missing, along with a significant sum of money — Ksh. 290,000 — which had been withdrawn from his mobile money account.
Detectives launched an investigation and were able to trace the suspects using mobile money transaction data and CCTV footage obtained from the club.
Githinji and Kamau were subsequently arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have since warned the public to remain vigilant when socializing with strangers, especially in nightlife settings.
