Celebrated Mugithi artist and police officer Samidoh, whose real name is Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, has been transferred by the National Police Service following the viral success of his performance of the politically charged “Wantam” chant.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Previously stationed at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil, Samidoh is now set to report to Baringo County — a region often described as rugged and prone to banditry.
Speaking on the matter, Samidoh confirmed the move, saying he was expected to report to Gilgil first before proceeding to Baringo.
Although no official reason has been offered for the transfer, the reassignment is widely seen as disciplinary, considering the political undertones associated with the “Wantam” slogan.
The phrase has been prominently used by Deputy Chief Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua in his call for President Ruto’s ouster in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja addressed the issue during a press briefing, asserting that transfers are a standard part of police service operations and emphasizing that Samidoh’s redeployment was not out of the ordinary.
Nevertheless, many observers believe the move is a reaction to the growing attention the “Wantam” video has drawn, placing Samidoh at the center of an increasingly tense political atmosphere.
